Welcome Guide

The Township of Machar is located in the District of Parry Sound. It is comprised of 46,277.90 acres with a permanent population of approximately 1000. During the vacation seasons, our population increases greatly due to the bountiful lakes, recreational opportunities available year round and Mikisew Provincial Park during the summer season. We are proud to have clean lakes and sandy beaches to please boaters, swimmers, fishermen and nature lovers. The lakes featured in our beautiful Township are Eagle Lake, Bray Lake, and King Lake. We are also the primary access to Lount Township, Cheer Lake, Deer Lake and Spring Lake. This booklet is intended to provide useful information for those visiting our Township or residing here. The interim tax bill is mailed during the first week in March & the final tax bill is mailed during the first week in August.  Each bill has two installments; due at the end of March, April, August & September. Payment is preferred by cheque, telephone or internet banking. Please use the last 15 digits of your roll number. 

Permanent trailers are not allowed.  A tent or travel trailer or a truck camper can be located and used on any lot in the Shoreline Residential, Backlot Residential or Rural zones for no more than 30 days in a calendar year. 

You can check the zoning of your property and the zone requirements on our website By-Laws page.  ZBL Schedule A is the map and Zoning By-Law Consolidated is the updated current Zoning By-Law No. 45-12. A New Zoning Compliance Form is required for Building Permits, accessible on our website.  

The South River-Machar Community Centre is located at 1-A Lincoln Av. Public skating is offered and the upper level may be rented for social functions. For more information, contact the Arena at 705-386-2622.

The South River Machar Public Library is located at 63 Marie St. in South River.  Internet access is available to the public.  For more information, please call 705-386-0222. 

ATV’s are permitted on the Township roads. Riders are required to have proper licensing & registration & abide by the reduced speed limits. A copy of the by-law is on our website. Please do not tear up public beaches or roadways. 

The South River-Machar Medical Centre is located at 140 Ottawa Av. We have 2 doctors on location. For appointments, please call 705-386-0512.  An optometrist is also available. For appointments, please call 705-386-2925. 

Public health in the Township of Machar is under the direction of the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit. Water testing bottles may be obtained at the Township Office. Their website address is www.myhealthunit.ca & is very informative. New North Bay Office at 345 Oak St. 

Winter Road Maintenance: Don’t crowd the plow, please give our snowplows room to work, stay well behind and be aware of blind spots. Please keep all signs/mailboxes clear of snow and don’t push snow across or onto roadways, it’s illegal and creates hazards.

The Road Department is responsible for the maintenance of the Township roads.  If there are any problems concerning the roads, please contact the Garage at 705-386-2837 & leave a message. 

There are 3 beaches for the public’s use.  Bray Lake Park is located at 849 Bray Lake Rd.  The Narrows Public Beach is located at 2389 Eagle Lake Rd and Eagle Lake Estates Park is located at 40 Angus Point Rd.  No dogs are permitted on the public beaches & please do not litter. Please don’t feed the ducks.
