Potential Blue Green Algae Bloom - Eagle Lake

The North Bay District Office of the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) received notification this morning regarding a possible blue green algal bloom in Eagle Lake – across the lake from Mikisew Provincial Park. There is a O. Reg. 170/03 system located on the south end of the lake – approx. 3 000 m from the algae bloom. However, they have switched to groundwater wells and use surface water as emergencies only.

The North Bay District Office completed a desktop assessment of the available information and identified the potential for a blue green algal bloom based on the photographs provided and known history of blue green algal bloom on Eagle Lake (in 2014 and 2015).

The Ministry recommends a precautionary approach to water usage. The Ministry will not be undertaking a field visit to confirm the presence of a bloom.
